An Inventory Approach to Humanizing Work and Working Environment in Indian Underground Coal Mines

Reporting of productivity alteration due to environmental stress on face drillers (FD) in India is scarce. In this study the heat strain of twenty healthy FD was evaluated during their actual work at varying depth of working. Working heart rates (WHR) were measured for all the participants and compared between two groups of miners from Mine A and Mine B. Environmental data was collected throughout the shift. Mean Working Heart Rate (WHR) was 141-148 beats/min and 139-145 beats/min for Mine A and Mine B FD respectively.
